Preparing to survive requires planning…

With the economic, social, political and personal issues facing each of us today, it is no wonder that many are choosing to avoid as much anxiety as they possibly can. Every day, news broadcasts cause many to just “tune out” and ignore what is going on around them.  Too often, the reaction of others is “Get your head out of the sand and pay attention.”  This type of response often just creates a negative image of the messenger and little is accomplished.  It is essential for people today to become more “situational aware” of things beyond their surroundings.

Protecting ourselves and providing for our families is a natural instinct; the flight or fight response is normal and present in each of us.  This “Survival Readiness” part of our nature now must be enlarged to include much more than we have grown accustomed to in the past.  The most ardent “preppers” already have figured out what they need to do and many are ready and equipped to try and live independently and “off the land” for some period of time.  Our goal is to help find a practical and simple way to be ready “just in case” something significant happens.

If you begin preparing now and focus on goals and lists, the tasks will not be overwhelming. Start to prepare now, to protect yourself and your family by preparing your food store, survival gear, personal items, protective gear and helpful information. Your own personal situation and location will determine whether you want to be ready to stay where you are or plan on traveling to an alternate location.  The best surroundings always include family and friends to be part of a stronger support mechanism if everyone in the group has taken some action to prepare for the “just in case” situations.  Earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, power outages among other critical events, natural or man-made, occur frequently. Your survival readiness needs to become not some theory but a practical plan to be part of your own solution.

If you want to prepare more extensively in one area or another depending on your own situation, there are many sites that develop each area of links to more exhaustive sites are included.  Many are very reputable but keep in mind that every person’s situation is different and often writers may not have encountered the events personally. Much of the information may be speculative although appropriate.  By starting your journey to survival readiness, your level of comfort is enhanced each step along the way. Begin by assessing your personal situation; evaluate your own survival readiness.
